MoBiLe Trouble

Actually I was thinking to write about my experiences with linux, but the incidents that happened yesterday changed my mind. As  I have said earlier I am considered as the repairer around my neighbourhood I will tell about the latest mistake I have commited.

After Computer the next item I like is MoBiLeS I am really crazy about that stuff. My latest mobile is N73ME (Don’t think that I am in the habit of changing mobiles often  I got this one after fighting with parents for 3 years ) well getting the symbian powered mobile was one of my dreamz. After getting that mobile I am experimenting with it.As Nokia truly says

"It is not just a mobile but a multimedia rich computer"

When I first got the mobile wht I did was connecting it with computer and saving songs in that, then I saw the firmware update software in nokia’s site.Something new that they introduced,I got excited and I downloaded the software I asked some of my friends whether they have seen that software, all replied with the same answer "seen that but not actually used it".I instantly tried it i must say everything went fine I did as they instructed and the phone restarted as they had said got an increased output for my mp3 player, but now i wanted to restore my contacts.

Then I realized my mistake I had not used the right software to copy the contacts all I did was to acess the mobiles memory and copy the folder contacts.Copying it back never solved the prob,I now patiently sat down and read the instructions they had given when installing firmware. They had  specifically asked to make a nokia backup as u can see reading instructions is not even there in my dictionary

“What I do is what I think is right”

I began to think of getting back those contacts then I remembered when I changed my phone I had backuped contacts in the sim. Thank God it was still there so I copied it back I got most of my friends’s names, many of them had changed their no's with introduction of bsnl suvidha scheme so I contacted manoj thankfully I could recover most no’s as he had them.

This is my mistake so I learned from that and I made backup that day itself and do so every week. The real motive behind writing this blog is the mistake I made yesterday, as usual I went to see my neighbour and were talking to her about my blog then she got a call and answered it but the phone restarted as soon as she did that, she complained to me about it as u can see tht phone was also bought under my advice(A nokia 6681).Being the symbian user I was confident that I can make the prob clear, I figured out it was just resetting to factory settings and asked her if there was any prob if the settings changed she said to proceed believing in me and I did so with the code

“*#7730#”

Little did I know abt the prob then ,it is the code I use in my N73 as expected the phone restarted and I changed the date and time and gave her to check about the call prob. She took the dialled no list it was erased as expected so she took contacts then the bolt striked my head it showed

0 contacts”

I was confused maybe there was some prob with settings so I desperately tried to change the settings back and forth nothing happens,I am helpless and there was no other way but to inform her about the accident. She was stunned there were many improtant numbers and she couldn’t even remember a single one also she had kept some passwords and stuff in the msg’s folder.Only relief she had was that she remembered about making a backup when her mobile cable worked.I immediately searched her laptop and found out the  backup she made 1 year back .Then arises the new prob I am not able to open that backup she was making me tensed also so I asked her to give me some time. So I went to my home, collected my nokia mobile cable and phoned and asked my friend what was the prob I made.I hoped this time also my friend will come up with some now code to get the data back the reply I got made me remember the old saying

"Think twice before you act"

“*#7730#” and “*#7780#”

I had used the previous one as I had said earlier,it erases the whole phone memory in Series 60v2 phones and in my phone which is a series60v3 it just resets the settings. In my neighbour’s phone I should have used the second code as  it only resets.I cursed my overconfidence and began to think how to make that backup work.I suddenly remebered that I had once upgraded her nokia suite so that may the reason why i am not able to use the backup she made. I take the cd she got with phone remove the new pc suite and uses the old one in cd.Thank God it worked like a miracle she got all the contacts but 1 year had made a lot of changes in her contacts which my mistake had erased.

The only thing I want u people to understand from this whole episode is that nothing is safe in this digital world, making a hard backup( That is using a pen and paper even though it takes more time) is safer than losing all data u have,as me and my neighbor had learned make a hard backup of all your contacts or else in a situation like this or when u lose ur phone u will be contactless. The situation may be such that u will not remember your father’s or mother’s number even.

Nothing is safe in this Digital World u may have data today ,the next day it may be just a blank screen showing data corrupted”

As the old Saying goes

Prevention is  better than cure”

CoMpUtErS,cOmPuTeRs and COMPUTERS

Electronic Gadgets from my childhood days attracted me a lot. The Pure interest for a gadget led me to the discovery of the wild world of computers. At the 5 std Level where touching a computer was considered to be a Sin in school full of so called technical experts i had to struggle hard to get near one. All my friends interested in playing games made me an exception who just wanted to see wht was inside. The First interaction with the hardware of a computer came during the science fair where my classmate who had his big bro  a comp wizard helped him to keep a collection of old computer parts as a collection. Even though it is the so called junk of his house it did make a prize winning collection as no one had ever seen so much parts together.

Seeing the inner components made me think how such flashy colors and games come from inside such a piece of dusty board full of so called chips tht whirred a lot and made the hell of a noise. This search for knowledge led to friendship with the GaDgEtS. The computers a fascination from my 5 std is the real motivation  behind the person who i am now. I had to wait till my 9 to own a computer that too after a long range fight with my parents, emerging victorious in the end i began to search the help of experts to see wht else i can do with the computer other than gaming and playing music. The first actual destruction of the computer took place after 1 yr the day after the warranty ended( these things are designed for 1 yr i think). As usual getting up that day and turning on the computer just did nothing it read

" System Disk Failure, Press ENTER after u insert the disk"

that passed like a lightning bolt through my heart i had experimented with a software i got from a chip magazine that ended up a failure ending all the discoveries i made till that day. I had to set everything right without the calling of a professional, anything that leads to the loss of money will end my life with computers my parents had already warned me that. I thought of the phone a friend option from the famous "KAUN BANEGA CRORPATHI". My Tech Guru Ramakrishnan answered the option and gave the right answer

"The WINDOWS is CORRUPTED"

another bolt hit my heart this led to the call for a professional. But the next few words from raman was like finding water in the whole wide desert, he said that it was a common problem and i can just reinstall myself the computer. The finiding that i can get the computer right myself was the root to all problems it created a confidence in me and the days of destruction to my computer. The release of WIN XP led to the further destruction of my computer i had to install that and for installation i made hell of changes in computer. Even though not even a single game f opened in my computer i ended being the first one around my neighborhood and also in the class to do so. It created the new image for me the reinstaller or the repairer.

The simple thing i did created an image i still keep, computer REPAIRER i still don't get where i repair the comp all i do is destroying the data.As Bryan Adams's song goes on

"Those Were the Best Days of my life"

Those were the days when i enjoyed reinstalling the computer. I got the image as i said it led to repairing of my neighbor's computers also. The love for reinstalling was upto such an extent that i almost did the reinstallation 7 days a week which led to the speeding up of my OS in the piece of junk computer i owned. It even led to such an extent that i could remeber the 25 letter product key of the OS. I found out that it is true "when u own a thing then only you can find the disadvantages about it". I realized what a fool i was when i bought the computer for the prize which was supposed to be a great offer. This made me the assembler i am now. I didn't want others to be cheated so i began to help make others make choice of their computers, happy to say that even though i made mistake in buying my computer i never made a mistake for others.

What actually led to write this blog is the reinstallation of OS in my new computer (even though it is 3 years old it runs with comparable speed to new ones) now i find it hard to reinstall, with the level of use of computer increasing i needed to make backup for everything which is the hardest part. so i now only reinstall the computer once in a month or sometimes once in 3 months.I still enjoy reinstalling computers but not mine. I am a well known maintanence engineer around my local neighborhood all i do is reinstalling but that also is a wonder around here.
