MoBiLe Trouble

Actually I was thinking to write about my experiences with linux, but the incidents that happened yesterday changed my mind. As  I have said earlier I am considered as the repairer around my neighbourhood I will tell about the latest mistake I have commited.

After Computer the next item I like is MoBiLeS I am really crazy about that stuff. My latest mobile is N73ME (Don’t think that I am in the habit of changing mobiles often  I got this one after fighting with parents for 3 years ) well getting the symbian powered mobile was one of my dreamz. After getting that mobile I am experimenting with it.As Nokia truly says

"It is not just a mobile but a multimedia rich computer"

When I first got the mobile wht I did was connecting it with computer and saving songs in that, then I saw the firmware update software in nokia’s site.Something new that they introduced,I got excited and I downloaded the software I asked some of my friends whether they have seen that software, all replied with the same answer "seen that but not actually used it".I instantly tried it i must say everything went fine I did as they instructed and the phone restarted as they had said got an increased output for my mp3 player, but now i wanted to restore my contacts.

Then I realized my mistake I had not used the right software to copy the contacts all I did was to acess the mobiles memory and copy the folder contacts.Copying it back never solved the prob,I now patiently sat down and read the instructions they had given when installing firmware. They had  specifically asked to make a nokia backup as u can see reading instructions is not even there in my dictionary

“What I do is what I think is right”

I began to think of getting back those contacts then I remembered when I changed my phone I had backuped contacts in the sim. Thank God it was still there so I copied it back I got most of my friends’s names, many of them had changed their no's with introduction of bsnl suvidha scheme so I contacted manoj thankfully I could recover most no’s as he had them.

This is my mistake so I learned from that and I made backup that day itself and do so every week. The real motive behind writing this blog is the mistake I made yesterday, as usual I went to see my neighbour and were talking to her about my blog then she got a call and answered it but the phone restarted as soon as she did that, she complained to me about it as u can see tht phone was also bought under my advice(A nokia 6681).Being the symbian user I was confident that I can make the prob clear, I figured out it was just resetting to factory settings and asked her if there was any prob if the settings changed she said to proceed believing in me and I did so with the code

“*#7730#”

Little did I know abt the prob then ,it is the code I use in my N73 as expected the phone restarted and I changed the date and time and gave her to check about the call prob. She took the dialled no list it was erased as expected so she took contacts then the bolt striked my head it showed

0 contacts”

I was confused maybe there was some prob with settings so I desperately tried to change the settings back and forth nothing happens,I am helpless and there was no other way but to inform her about the accident. She was stunned there were many improtant numbers and she couldn’t even remember a single one also she had kept some passwords and stuff in the msg’s folder.Only relief she had was that she remembered about making a backup when her mobile cable worked.I immediately searched her laptop and found out the  backup she made 1 year back .Then arises the new prob I am not able to open that backup she was making me tensed also so I asked her to give me some time. So I went to my home, collected my nokia mobile cable and phoned and asked my friend what was the prob I made.I hoped this time also my friend will come up with some now code to get the data back the reply I got made me remember the old saying

"Think twice before you act"

“*#7730#” and “*#7780#”

I had used the previous one as I had said earlier,it erases the whole phone memory in Series 60v2 phones and in my phone which is a series60v3 it just resets the settings. In my neighbour’s phone I should have used the second code as  it only resets.I cursed my overconfidence and began to think how to make that backup work.I suddenly remebered that I had once upgraded her nokia suite so that may the reason why i am not able to use the backup she made. I take the cd she got with phone remove the new pc suite and uses the old one in cd.Thank God it worked like a miracle she got all the contacts but 1 year had made a lot of changes in her contacts which my mistake had erased.

The only thing I want u people to understand from this whole episode is that nothing is safe in this digital world, making a hard backup( That is using a pen and paper even though it takes more time) is safer than losing all data u have,as me and my neighbor had learned make a hard backup of all your contacts or else in a situation like this or when u lose ur phone u will be contactless. The situation may be such that u will not remember your father’s or mother’s number even.

Nothing is safe in this Digital World u may have data today ,the next day it may be just a blank screen showing data corrupted”

As the old Saying goes

Prevention is  better than cure”

for all the times i've lost data trying to tinker with the system and had been confident.. the feeling of having gone wrong churns in your stomach, but you always come away richer in wisdom from the experience..

when you reset everything the only satisfting thought is that you got rid of the junk accumulating along with it.. :-)
